In 2007, Avebury gained planning permission for the construction of 67 dwellings and a new community centre. While the residential section of the development was completed in 2009, the community centre site laid dormant for a number of years while funding was secured.
Phase 1 of the development is now on site and is expected to complete later this year. This section contains the smaller quiet room and allows the MK Hindu Association to move out of their temporary accommodation on the site into a building fit for purpose.
In advance of the site works Avebury have successfully secured and put in place a European Protected Species Development Licence from Natural England, ensuring that the development could proceed safely and without causing adverse impact to the local Great Crested Newt population.
