Avebury were appointed by a private client to design a one-off family house just outside the village of Roade, in Northamptonshire.
The client wanted a design that was exemplary, and also a building which was energy efficient and would reduce operational costs. We designed a building that met the design stage Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH) Level 6 standard which demonstrated that the design met the highest CfSH criteria.
The design was reviewed by OPUN, the Architecture and Built Environment Centre in the East Midlands.
The form of the proposal is elegant, interesting and considered. The simplicity of the elevations composed against the gentle curves of the split roofs demonstrates a restraint which achieves a quietly beautiful building.
